Kids being raised on a diet of junk food and television, and their unassuming minds taking the shape of their parents' insecurities.
Lets all sit around the big-screen plasma TV, eat pizza out of a cardboard box and wait for darkness.

when you're willing to render
to the guilt you concede
when truth is your reason
then lay the blame on me
when you unveil the conscience
and to peace you agree
when love is your constant
then lay the blame on me |

So Congress surprised everyone with a shock defeat. Everyone including the stock market, which has tanked beyond any recognition, and if analysts are to be believed, will tank further before a government is formed. Then again, these are the same analysts that went honk and tonk about the Sensex hitting 7000 by May.
I was as shocked as everyone else by BJP's defeat. Though I am not fanatic about the evils of politics, I believe BJP did a few right things in their 6 odd years. The things they did wrong, however, really fucked them up. Gujarat, for example. Andhra Pradesh, for example. And the harping about Sonia's foreign origin, for example. It wasn't befitting of a man of Vajpayee's stature to get personal. And sure as hell it didn't work. But i'll come back to that later.
So actually as the dust settles, I think it's great that Congress is back. I would've ideally liked the BJP around for another 5 year term so Divestment would've rocked the house and we all would've made some money, and then Congress wins to sort of take over as managers of a rollicking economy. But even this way around, maybe 5 years down the line we won't be exactly where we would by if the BJP would be in power again, but i'm pretty sure we won't be too far behind either. Coz Manmohan Singh is really the guy who introduced the concept of reforms and selective divestment. And i'm pretty sure he's gonna take it from where he left it.
Another thing i'm pretty kicked about is the fact that Milind Deora won. Hell, Congress won all the Mumbai seats. Coz Milind D has a clear agenda - Mumbai city should get back enough of which we are giving out. Take this for example. In the past 5 years, Mumbai has been giving 30,000 crores and 50,000 crores a year to the state and the central govts respectively, for which it got back 500 crores each. Doesn't even count as pittance. On the other hand, the centre handed 28,000 crores a year to Andhra Pradesh for its IT escapades. No doubt that they rocked the house when it came to tech, but it's too much of a disparity in distribution of funds, considering Mumbai works the hardest, pays more for everything, pays the most taxes, yet faces a fund crunch when it comes to infrastructure development. So with guys like Milind in power who's priority is exactly that - ie. infrastructure development, hopefully we should see the completion of stalled freeways, initiation of new freeways and the all important upgradation of the local train network, as well as the announcement of the long awaited Skybus. But then again, maybe its too early to talk about all that.
So coming back to the Sensex. Investors have lost 100,000 Crores of wealth in two weeks. The madarchod foreign investors have fucked off for the time being. And unless the market picks up next week, we might get to read about the first case of suicide because of heavy losses incurred in the crash.
And I am really shocked at several people around me, including so called progressive-thinkers, who are 'appalled' at the thought of Sonia Gandhi as PM, just coz she's Italian. She's as Indian as any of us is. When Indian-born Bobby Grewal ran for office in the US, none of these people made any noise about his origin. Why now, when something of the same order is happening here, albeit on a larger scale? I'm all for Sonia for Prime Minister. And Rahul for the next Prime Minister. With Manmohan Singh and P. Chidambaram in the cabinet, even I could be a good Prime Minister, and Sonia undoubtedly is about a gazillion times better than me. So what if she's Italian? As long as she isn't French. |

Six Feet Under Season 1. Nate Fisher discovers a rundown room full of old records, empty beer cans and a dusty sofa at the back of an Indian restaurant. The owner of the restaurant tells him how his late father, funeral director Nathaniel Senior, cremated his wife years ago and because the hotelier couldn't afford to pay him at the time, Nate senior asked for the room in settlement of his payment. What did his father do in this pathetic room, Nate wonders.
Sometimes he was here everyday. Sometimes we wouldn't see him for months.
Nate brings his girlfriend Brenda to the room, secretly hoping she would help him figure out its reason-to-be.
Maybe your father just wanted something that he wouldn't have to share with anybody. Something he could call his own. |
